Tokyo, October 1, 2003---SANYO Electric Co., Ltd., the world's largest manufacturer of digital cameras, introduces an entirely new concept combining the best of digital movies and digital cameras in one. The "Xacti" DMX-C1 is compact enough to fit inside a shirt pocket, incorporates MPEG-4 digital recording for high quality images and sound. Storage comes in the form of an SD memory card, which lets users film up to 30 minutes of TV-quality (VGA) moving images.*1 And, while shooting moving images, users can also capture still images with a simple shutter press. The DMX-C1 achieves TV-quality VGA shooting and high-resolution 3.2 mega pixel still images. The silver colored DMX-C1 is to go on sale in Japan November 7, 2003 with a 75,000 yen maker's suggested price. Plan an initial monthly production of 10,000 units.

Main features
1. World's smallest and lightest*2 digital movie camera combined high quality movie and high quality still pictures in a new style camera.
2. World's first*3 MPEG-4 format high quality (VGA/30fps) images recorded on SD memory card.
3. World first*3, a 3.2 mega pixel still and video images captured simultaneously
4. Improved usability by simple and convenient functions

*2:Among VGA size or above digital video cameras for home use (as of 10/1/2003 SANYO Research)
*3:Among home use digital cameras and digital video cameras (as of 10/1/2003 SANYO Research)

(1) World's smallest and lightest digital movie camera combined high quality movie and high quality still pictures in a new style camera.

A world's smallest (approx. 149cc) and lightweight (155g: body only) allows for a range of shooting possibilities. Ergonomically designed to fit comfortably in one hand, this portable digital movie camera can be used for extended periods without putting strain on the user's wrist and also makes it easier to keep arms steady during use.

The DMX-C1 employs a 5.8x optical zoom lens with a F3.5 aperture. Together with the 10x digital zoom, it provides up to 60x zoom capability, for an enhanced range of shooting. Despite its compact size, the DMX-C1's lens system comprises a total of 11 lenses including a large-diameter 24mm lens. The DMX-C1 employs an efficient 3.2 mega pixel CCD, which enables users to shoot both TV-quality, VGA-size video images and high-resolution 3.2 mega pixel still images.

(2) World's first MPEG-4 format high quality (VGA/30fps) images recorded on SD memory card.

The DMX-C1's MPEG-4 recording technology achieves VGA-size (640 lines x 480 dots) resolution at 30 fps. Compared to previous models at SANYO achieved about 5 times more recording time with newly developed LSI. With a 512M memory SD card, users can record approximately 30 minutes of TV-quality video.

For storage, the DMX-C1 uses a SD memory card*4. Since video clips are recorded and stored in easy-to-browse digital format, time is saved rewinding and fast-forwarding to a chosen scene. The DMX-C1's fast start-up, meanwhile, makes it ideal for sudden photo opportunities.

*4:Ships with 16MB memory card.

(3) World first, a 3.2 mega pixel still and video images captured simultaneously

If the shutter is pressed while a video is being shot, a high-quality still image can be captured. The DMX-C1 enables simultaneous still- and moving-picture shooting, with still pictures taken this way achieving a pixel count of 640 x 480 (VGA).

(4) Improved usability by simple and convenient functions

• Handy Docking Station for Immediate Shooting and Convenient Playback
• Edit moving pictures with "Cut and Joint"
• Quick Standby- immediately able to film or playback when LCD monitor is opened
• Easy Operation-with one touch control
