SANYO Announces the Sale of
World’s Highest Capacity*1 Level
AA & AAA Size Nickel - Metal Hydride Battery

Tokyo, Nov 1, 2005----SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. (SANYO), the world’s
leading producer of small-size rechargeable batteries, has announced
the sale of a new AA size (typ.2700mAh*2, min.2500mAh*3) and AAA size
(typ.1000mAh*2, min.930mAh*3) Nickel - Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) battery,
to go on sale Nov. 21, 2005. SANYO achieved the world’s highest
capacity*1 level by improving the ‘Superlattice Alloy’
material a proprietary negative electrode material. Rechargeable batteries
are economical as they can be used repeatedly. Moreover, a recycling
system for rechargeable batteries is already in place, giving such
batteries a great advantage for being environment friendly.
Consumer use Ni-MH batteries (Ni-MH 2700/ Ni-MH 1000 series), which
are compatible with dry cell batteries, achieve an even longer-lasting
operational time for digital devices such as digital cameras. This
product is a perfect fit for high-end device users that require
long operational time along with high performance. The operation
time of devices is greatly impacted by the battery capacity, and
with the ‘Ni-MH 2700/Ni-MH 1000 series,’ SANYO has achieved
the world’s highest*1 level capacity.
Using this new battery on a SANYO digital camera*4
increased the number of pictures that can be taken compared to a
conventional battery*5 by more than 40.
Based on its new vision ‘Think GAIA’, SANYO is simultaneously
pursuing solutions for a comfortable living and consideration for
the environment and will continue providing ‘Global Energy
Solutions’ and ‘LOHAS (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability)
Solutions’. SANYO will go forward and popularize consumer
use of Ni-MH batteries and will expand business using the keywords
‘A better alternative to dry cell batteries’.

further developing material along with precise battery
design, improved battery capacity compared to SANYO’s
AA sized Ni-MH 2500 series and AAA sized Ni-MH 900 series.
The products are named ‘Ni-MH 2700 series’
and ‘Ni-MH 1000 series’ because they hold
nominal capacity of 2700mAh and 1000mAh based on charge/discharge
levels as established by JIS C8708 2004(4.2.1).

Adopted new technologies on Negative/Positive
electrode material & battery
make-up, as well as new manufacturing technology
For the positive electrode material, SANYO’s
proprietary new manufacturing process of
high energy density Nickel hydroxide was introduced. Also
improvement of the durability
of SANYO’s proprietary ‘Superlattice alloy’
material for the negative electrode, resulted
in achieving the world’s highest capacity*1
level.
SANYO has trimmed down battery components of materials
and expanded the
packed-in electrode material inside the battery. Moreover,
regarding new manufacturing
technology, SANYO developed a proprietary new roll manufacturing
process and
successfully achieved high density electrodes. |
